Ron Scalzo I'd pay twice as much to watch Bob on Karaoke Night just to see what songs he'd pick to sing. Favorite track: Candy Says.

Marc Farre Most people know Bob Boilen as NPR’s irreplaceable music tastemaker. Not enough know him as a prolific artist in his own right. “2 Weeks 1 Summer” is Boilen’s best solo work to date, perfectly in sync with his endless curiosity and his restless artist’s eye and ear (the cover art is the perfect symbiosis of both).

Textures, melodies, rhythms and colors fall from into your senses like shifting patterns of light and rain on a windowpane. Give this a listen and let the magic sink in.
Favorite track: Needed This.

about

At the top of August, I took two weeks off work. I went out in the mornings, took hyper-close-up photos of flowers, and tried to photograph hummingbirds in the wild. Then, I'd come home, edit photos, and with those images in mind, I'd work on new music. My main tools were Logic Pro, Native Instruments, Spitfire software instruments, along with some AI tools like Scaler to inspire melodies. I was also working with my Danger Painter friends to reimagine the third Velvet Underground record. We didn't get very far, but I did manage to do a version of "Candy Says," which appears here. I sing Doug Yule's part. I also cover Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush." The line "look at Mother Nature on the run" has been very much on my mind of late.

And so 2 Weeks 1 Summer is just that: a snapshot of thoughts and music, some ambient, some more energetic, inspired by beauty and turmoil.

The cover art is the result of my first dabblings in infrared photography.
Thanks to Michael Barron for some help on the graphic design.

I love hearing feedback more than getting money, so please listen and drop me a note.
